About the Program
The Greensboro Youth Hockey Association Learn to Play Program offers first-time hockey players the chance to get on the rink in full hockey equipment and learn the basics. They will receive instruction on the basics of hockey as well as learn how to skate properly. Classes are open to boys and girls ages 4-16.

All students must complete Greensboro Ice Learn To Skate Basic 1-2 classes prior to enrolling. Full gear includes helmet with full-face shield, elbow pads, hockey pants, shin pads, skates, gloves and stick.

The GYHA Learn to Play Hockey Program is dedicated to making the game of hockey fun for everyone who plays it. By learning and developing the appropriate fundamental skills and knowledge of the game, every player will gain the confidence to be able to compete and enjoy the game at every age and skill level.

  • Cost $105 for 8 week sessions. Summer session is 12 weeks
  • USA Hockey certified coaches run weekly practices.
  • Receive a hockey jersey to keep at initial program sign-up.
  • Participants to be divided into groups based on ability.
  • Full hockey gear is required.
  • Basic equipment rental with $100 refundable deposit check held. *
  • Ice sessions to consist of fundamental skill instruction, small area games, and fun!

* = Loaner Equipment consists of helmet, chest protector, elbow pads, shin guards, pants, hockey socks, bag and skates. Parents responsible for stick, neck guard (optional), and groin protector/Velcro short protector – Ask about our equipment donation program for equipment available to help you get started-see the Greensboro Pro Shop for your purchasing needs.

Registration is now open for the Winter I Session edition of Learn to Play.  No one likes Monday's except our Learn to Play participants as it is a time to come out and enjoy a night of fun, learning to play hockey.  The program runs November 13th to January 15th, from 5:30pm to 6:30pm at a cost of $105.

Does your Learn to Player need equipment? 

GYHA has a loaner program where you can borrow gear, we require a $100 deposit by check for this program.  Once the gear is returned your check will be returned to you.
