LEARN TO PLAY HOCKEY WITH GYHA

The GYHA Learn to Play Program is the perfect starting point for boys and girls ages 4–16 who want to learn the game of hockey in a fun, inclusive, and supportive environment. Whether your child is brand new to the ice or ready to take the next step in their hockey journey, this program teaches the FUNdamentals of the sport, including:

Skating skills

Passing, shooting, and stick handling

Basic hockey concepts and “hockey sense”

Teamwork, sportsmanship, and confidence-building

Led by USA Hockey-certified coaches, sessions are fast-paced, engaging, and packed with age-appropriate instruction, small-area games, and plenty of fun!

Approval will be required before registering for any player who meets one or more of the following criteria:

  • Has previously played on a Travel or House League Team.
  • Has participated in more than 10 Learn To Play session.
  • Is older than 14yrs old.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we strive to provide the best possible experience for all our Learn To Play participants and guide them on their hockey journey.

* Loaner Equipment consists of helmet, chest protector, elbow pads, shin guards, pants, hockey socks, bag, skates and hockey stick. Parents are responsible for the neck guard and groin protector.  Our loaner equipment is available to help you get started or you can use the Greensboro Pro Shop for your purchasing needs.

Ages 4 - 16 eligible to participate

Every player is required to have a USA Hockey number to be eligible to participate.  Please use the link below to get your number or to renew for the season.

LEARN TO PLAY LOANER EQUIPMENT INFORMATION

 

Loaner Equipment Process & Agreement:

 

  1. Loaner Equipment Deposit Fee Collection 

  • GYHA loaner equipment is available for a $150 deposit, which is fully refundable. 

  • If your child needs equipment, please check the box marked “YES” indicating they require equipment, and proceed to pay the one time deposit fee during registration. *Additional session enrollments should be marked “NO” while your child is continuing the program. 

  1. Loaner Equipment Return 

  • Once your child is no longer participating in the Learn to Play program, please plan to return their equipment promptly. 

  • Write your player’s name on a piece of paper and place this inside the bag. 

  • Drop off Monday’s from 5:30-6:30 PM, or contact us to arrange an alternate drop off time. 

  1. Loaner Equipment Refund 

  • The $150 deposit collected during registration can either be refunded, or applied as a credit towards other GYHA programs, once the equipment is returned. 

  • Refunds are applied to your original payment method. However, deposits received 180 days prior to the time of the equipment return will result in a refund check being mailed to you. 

  • To have the refund applied as a credit please contact us when you are arranging your equipment return. 

  • *GYHA will work to process your refund expeditiously, but know that refunds are processed monthly, so please allow for up to 30 days to receive your refund and contact GYHA if you have any questions. 

 

*Full equipment is required for participation in the GYHA Learn to Play program. The deposit should be paid when you register your child. Please contact the GYHA organization at gyhastarsinfo@gmail.com with any questions or requests you may have. 

*All loaner equipment must be returned upon the conclusion of the current session your child is registered in, unless they are enrolled in the following session. An additional fee can be assessed for unreturned gear.
